Tonight I cooked Sinigang na Baboy for dinner. Super asim na sinigang kasi marami akong linagay na kamatis.

http://www.timog.com/gallery/files/3/4/9/20050923-004tf.jpg

Imbeto-imbeto lang pero okay naman ang kinalabasan.

I used Okinawa Pork with skin that they call “sanmai butaniku” (three-layered pork).

Ah, oishikatta desu! :yippee:

Pork Meat + Fat + Skin = Sanmai Butaniku

O, kayo naman…ano ang ulam ninyo?

Wow, sarap nman nyan! Nakakagutom!

Gusto kong i try kung anong pwede gawin sa mga seafoods nila like shrimp and squid. Pero come to think of it ang gusto ko talagang iluto kaso wla naman dito ay sisig at kare kare.

Hi docomo san, Maruchan, and everyone -

I don’t usually cook Filipino food here in Japan.
If I do, I cook adobo - once in a blue moon…(like once in two or three months)

But when I saw the photo of the sinigang… I decided to cook Filipino food…
this website brings out the Filipino cravings…so, here are the latest stuff I cooked two days ago…

BB (Binagoong na Babsi) and Adobong kangkong (with the half of the pork used for the BB)

Hi, I bought my Kangkong at Inageya, a supermarket chain, here in Tokyo.
They also have Inageya in front of Hanakoganei station, along Seibu Shinjuku line.
They also sell kangkong at the store in front of the Okubo station - Chuo line.

As for - Yokohama - am sure they have them, just look around. It is quite a new veggie in Japan.

Maruchan:
good afternoon and to all TFM’s too.

cyclops:)

Hello cyclops! Sorry at natagalan ang sagot ko kasi out of order ang TF tapos hinanap ko pa ang recipe. I got the recipe (below) sa internet din a long time ago.

BINAGOONGANG BABOY

This is something really easy to make. All the amounts of the ingredients
are adjustable to your taste, of course. Serve this with hot steamed rice,
kamatis, sliced cucumbers…just make sure you open the windows in the
kitchen while you’re cooking the bagoong!

Ingredients:

1 kilo pork loin, cut into 1" cubes
1/2 cup vinegar (spicy preferred but not required)
1/2 cup bagoong or, for the Ilonggos, ginamus
6 cloves of garlic, crushed and then minced fine
6-10 peppercorns, crushed
2 bay leaves

Procedure:

  1. Marinate the pork cubes in the other ingredients overnight in the
    refrigerator.
  2. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a wok or large frying pan. Saute the bay
leaves to bring out their fragrance.
  3. Add the marinated pork along with the marinade. Cook over a medium heat
until the pork is nice and tender (30-45 minutes). Check the frying pan
every so often to make sure the sauce isn’t drying out. If it is, lower the
heat and add 1/3 c of water and stir.

To lessen the smell of the bagoong, you can clap a lid on the frying pan.
Also, burning a piece of bread helps (the carbon absorbs the smell). But as
a friend said, which is worse–the smell of bagoong or the smell of burned
bread? My sister burns a candle by the stove while cooking bagoong. Nadine
R. Sarreal

I use bottled Barrio Fiesta Ginisang Bagoong kasi that’s all I know and have.

Happy cooking!

:yippee:

Pero alam mo, yosakoi-soran, na try ko na rin ilagay ang canned tuna sa miso soup, with cabbage, thick slices of onions and potato at ang sarap din. Masarap talaga ang tuna in can kasi marami kang pwedeng lutuin. Puwedo mo din siyang gawing tempura…iyon same as the mixed vegetables tempura they sell sa supa – basta lagyan mo lang siya ng thick slices of onions okay na!

Thanks…maruchan… …for the advice about the canned tuna:thumb: …susubukan kong lutuin itong miso shiru with cabbage and onions and potatoes. with canned tuna:food: …nice to hear from you…

Wow, City_rabbit, ang sarap ng mga linuto mo! Anong bagoong ang ginamit mo? Linagyan mo ba ng kamatis ito? 美味しそう (new 2 Kanji I’ve learn today)! :food:

… (mga taga yokohama yaho):peepwall:

You’re welcome, ariz! Ang miso shiru ang pinakamadaling lutuin kasi almost kahit ano pwede mong ilagay. You can put thin slices of pork (tonjiru), chicken, fish, shells or even kani (crab). It’s my fave one-dish meal 'yan. May ulam ka na…may sabaw ka pa. :food:

Hi, Chepot! Pagwala din si mister pyesta ako kasi I don’t need to cook so I buy lots of sushi or sashimi!

Healthy for sure.

Hi Maruchan, first time to say hello to you - though, I have read some of your posts.

At home, I usually cook only two Filipino food - adobo, and barbeque… my husband loves these Filipino food- recently, the list increased-
including tuyo, and BBabs.
(the one in the photo - that was the first time he tried BB)

As for the other Filipino food- we just enjoy them when we visit Manila.

Thanks for the sinigang-

But I am now looking for more Filipino recipes on how to make the “real” puto.

Hi City_rabbit and all interested in making puto. I have a recipe for making “putong puti” handed down from my grandma pa! Tried it several times and nagustuhan naman ng mga anak ko & hubby. You might like it, too…so I`m sharing it. Here it goes:

Ingredients: 2 cups rice, soaked and ground with 1 & 1/2 cups water
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 & 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 tsp salt

The ground rice should have the consistency of thick batter. Add to this the sugar, salt and baking powder. Mix thoroughly. Pour into puto molds, or coffee cups will do  , until each is about two-thirds full. Arrange in a steamer (or kaldero) and steam for half an hour or until done. Insert a toothpick in each and if it comes out dry, the" puto" is done. Serve with grated coconut or you may eat it plain with dinuguan .

I also have a recipe for “puto maya”…tell me if you`re interested so I could post it here.

Happy cooking!

Your puto looks so delicious, City_rabbit! Wow, naman with dinuguan pa! Grabe!!! Now I have to make one, too, kasi super inggit ako. :food:

Betsyboo, thank you for the recipe of puto!

Ok Maruchan…here`s for the Puto Maya

Ingredients: 3 cups malagkit or mochi gome
5 cups coconut milk
1 cup sugar
some grated coconut

Cooking Procedure:

Wash the mochi gome and prepare as you do when you cook rice though instead of water use the coconut milk and switch on your rice cooker set to making “sekihan” . When done, mold each serving in a coffee cup and unmold in a saucer. Place sugar and grated coconut on top of each serving.

Tulo laway ko tuloy…good luck, Maruchan, sa “puto maya” making mo!

Wow, Adechan, looks so masarap naman ang Lumpiang Sariwa mo. :food: Kapag may time ka naman share naman the recipe, ha? Especially, iyang lumpia wrappers mo. Parang mas masarap ang homemade kasi.

madali lang gawin ang lumpia wrapper
Lumpia Wrapper
regular:
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cup water
3 tbsp cooking oil
adechan version:
beside the regular ingredients
1 tsp garlic paste
1 cup dinikdik na peanuts
at 1 tsp peanut butter

then haluin lahat nang ingredients hanggang matunaw ang mga dry ingredients, painitin ang kawali, kung kinakailangan use a sprinkling oil para hindi mag stick sa kawali, or kung wala pahiran nang mantika ang kawali. then use 1 scoop of “otama” and spread it on the kawali, parang gumagawa ka lang nang crepe or like a hotcake, tantiyahin mo kung puwede nang ibaligtad, usually it could make 7- to 10 crepes depende sa laki nang gawa mo.

Sauce
1/2 cup sugar (white or brown will do)
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 cups broth from stir fry (pero plain water na lang ang inilalagay ko, i add 1 tbsp oyster sauce)
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp cornstarch(dilluted w/ 1/4 cup of water
4-6 cloves of garlic minced or 2 tbsp of garlic paste (or depende sa hilig ninyo nang bawang)

tunawin and dry ingredients na pinaghalo halo lahat, then isalang sa katamtamang lakas nang apoy, huwag itigil ang paghahalo hanggang hindi naluluto, i-adjust ang init nang apoy

Sahog
i use
cabbage, beans sprout, kamote, celery, baboy, hipon, onion, oyster sauce, asin, bawang,
igisa.
mag dikdik nang peanuts at ibukod

then ibalot na
mas masarap kung papahiran muna nang konting peanut butter ang wrapper, ( i tried many brand of peanut butter here in japan, pero iba pa rin ang peanut butter sa atin sa pinas, or iyong crunchy peanut butter, pero mas mura kase and peanut butter nila dito)

after pahiran nang peanut butter, place the lettuce then place the sahog, then budbudran nang dinikdik na mane, then kung gustong madaling kainin, ilagay na rin ang sauce, then ibalot and ready to eat na siya.

hope it will help happy cooking

at siyempre iyong dalawa kong buta kun,

madali lang gumawa nang lumpia wrapper and most of all tipid sa budget :stuck_out_tongue:

Tonight I cooked Sinigang na Baboy for dinner. Super asim na sinigang kasi marami akong linagay na kamatis.

http://www.timog.com/gallery/files/3/4/9/20050923-004tf.jpg

Imbeto-imbeto lang pero okay naman ang kinalabasan.

I used Okinawa Pork with skin that they call “sanmai butaniku” (three-layered pork).

Ah, oishikatta desu! :yippee:

Pork Meat + Fat + Skin = Sanmai Butaniku

O, kayo naman…ano ang ulam ninyo?

What a coincidence, Maruchan!
