Association of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba (FAST)

The Association of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba (FAST) is an organization based in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, composed of undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, teachers, trainees and researchers at the University of Tsukuba and research institutes in the Tsukuba Science City.

History

The Association of Filipino Scholars in Tsukuba originated in the 1980s as an informal group through which Filipino students and scholars could meet and discuss their studies and life in Japan.[1]

Because most members were students at the University of Tsukuba, the organization was originally called the Association of Filipino Students in Tsukuba (FAST).[2]

In the late 1990s, the “Students” in its name was changed to “Scholars” to reflect its varied membership.
