I am not that old at all…
I grew up with Duran-Duran, Tears for Fears, the Smiths, the Dawn…
I hate to disappoint you, Betong, but to some people, that’s quite old!!
Hehe but not to worry, we’re in the same boat :o (along with many other TF members it seems to me).
Ako mga paborito ko noon The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Smiths…
Note: This thread was split from betong’s oishi, oishi, oishi, oishi… (http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=562 ) thread and this post is in reply to betong’s post here (http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?p=309 3#post3093).

YOU KNOW YOU GREW UP IN THE 1980’S WHEN …
You know the profound meaning of “Wax on, Wax off.”
You know who Mr. T is and the rest of the A-Team.
You Believed that “By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power!”
Transformers were more than meets the eye.
You can remember Michael Jackson when he was black.
You actually thought “Dirty Dancing” was a REALLY good movie.
You wore your Izod shirt with the collar up.
You had a Swatch Watch with the Swatch Guard.
You have ever wondered what happened to Saturday morning cartoons.
You had to get up to change the channel.
You remember the original Voltron? and Voltes V… and Daimos… and UFO
Grendaiser… and Mazinger Z… and Aphrodite E (with boob missiles)…
You know the names of all the lead characters in the robot cartoons (now called anime)… Steve, Big Bert, Little John, Koji Kabuto…
You dance like Roland Orzabal in parties
You know the members of the Justice League and the Legion of Doom
More than half of your friends had one-sided hairstyles…
You either like Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet
You know that another name for a keyboard is a “Synthesizer.”
You can sing the McDonald’s Big Mac, Filet-o-fish, quarter pounder, and French fry song.
You know who Fat Albert is. And who was old boy with the pink mask?
You ever wore fluorescent, neon clothing.
You could breakdance, or wish you could.
You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween.
Partying “like it’s 1999” seemed SO far away.
You knew that knowing is half the battle.
You wanted to be on Star Search.
You wore a banana clip at some point during your youth.
You remember the garbage pail kids, and owned some.
You thought those little blue smurfs were cute…
You knew what Willis was “talkin’ 'bout.” Rut, row, raggy, and Zoinks
You HAD to have your MTV.
You remember when ATARI was THE state of the art video game system.
You owned any cassette and vinyl record.
You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we’d all be living on the moon
You knew Drew Barrymore when she was still a kid helping ET to phone home…
You know what leg warmers are and probably had a pair.
You wore biker shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish.
Your Legos collection started with the free sets in a Happy Meal.
You remember when Happy Meals came in a box, not a paper bag.
You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
You had Wonder Woman or Superman underoos.
You know what a “Push Up” ice cream is.
You had to come in the house when the street lights came on.
You had to change into play clothes after school.
You owned, or knew somebody with a Commodore 64.
You hated Scrappy Doo.
You recorded songs off the radio with your boom box.
You wish you had a light saber.
Somehow you still know all the words to songs played on VH1’s “Big 80’s”
Your arm was full of rubber bracelets.
You have ever said, “Gag me with a spoon.”
You can still sing 1 to 12 from the Pinball machine on Sesame Street.
You thought the “Thriller” video was pretty cool.
You remember the first time you went in to a video store to rent a movie.
You wore those wide, colorful shoelaces.
Quiet Riot’s “Come on feel the noise” was the best song - ever.
You know where “I want my two dollars” came from.
You still cannot go in to the water because of that damn movie - Jaws.
You know what “Sike” means.
El Debarge’s “Get a beat to the rhythm of the night” plagued the radio every hour.
You remember life before minivans and SUVs.
(If you can identify with at least half of this list then you, my friend, are a “Child of the 80’s”. )

… to the arena, take it to the matador…
So, I remember this song as being sung in English.

Here is another Propaganda song:
Duel
Eye to eye, stand winners and losers
Hurt by envy, cut by greed
Face to face with their own disillusions
The scars of old romances still on their sheets.
And when blow by blow, the passion dies.
Sweet little deaths have just been lies.
Some memories of gone by times.
We still recall the lines.
The first cut won’t hurt at all.
The second only makes you wonder.
The third will have you on your knees.
You start bleeding, I start screaming.

Funny. But this Matador song is from 2005 from, I agree, a French band called Mickey 3D and sung in French. So can’t be the other Matador song from the 80’s everybodz knows.
In this same genre, I know Louise Attaque, as it was very in during my uni years.
Allez viens, j’t’emmène au vent,
Je t’emmène au dessus des gens
Et je voudrais que tu te rappelles
Notre amour est éternel
Et pas artificiel.

Hay salamat, Andres! Na-clarify na finally itong question na ito. :thumb:
I must say the late 70’s and the early 80’s was the most fruitful period of time in the history of rock/pop music. Has Rock been dead?
I read an article in GQ magazine once about how rock music has reached it’s climax and is finally weaning. The author quoted a Spandau Ballet song, True:
With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue,
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun.
Listening to Marvin all night long.
This is the sound of my soul. (This is the sound)
And how the words in this song and the feeling it gives just can’t be found in today’s pop rock bands. I agree partly with him in that it is indeed very hard to find good musicians nowadays. As media gets wider and wider and in the age of Big Brother, American Idol, Star Academy and all those celebrities for a day people or those who just get famous for getting filmed cavorting with their dates of the day (like Paris Hilton), I guess it’s easy to realize that celebrities are not the same as the ones before. Where is the new Rolling Stones? There isn’t any, that’s why they’re still around. Aerosmith, the same, they have to stick around to show other guys what rock is all about. Bob Dylan, same. My favorites REM and Depeche Mode are still around too, and sometimes you get the same feel from their music as you did in the 80’s.
But there are bands now that are quite good too (to me anyway). I like Coldplay, very soulful and meaningful. Beck, very prolific and exciting.
I guess we’re just getting old, Teddy. :weep:
Here’s one song I like from Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats. I don’t like Mondays.
The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload.
And nobody’s gonna go to school today,
She’s going to make them stay at home.
And daddy doesn’t understand it,
He always said she was as good as gold.
And he can see no reason
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.
The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload.
And nobody’s gonna go to school today,
She’s going to make them stay at home.
And daddy doesn’t understand it,
He always said she was as good as gold.
And he can see no reason
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.

Uuuyy…syanga pala…is there anyone here na nakaka-kilala kay Leif Garret, kumanta ng mga ilang revival songs songs such as…“Put your head on my shoulder”,Surfi’n USA,etc…naku gustong gusto ko yon…sa mga notebooks ko lagi name nya ang nakasulat…palo tuloy ako sa teacher…kasi walang homework na nakasulat…he he heh e…

sorry japphi - about your idol… anyway, most of them in the entertainment business (in the Philipinnes too) try drugs at one point in their lives, some get hooked, some just try it for fun once or twice and quit… it is sad some get hooked…cause they are supposed to be so called - idols…many great performers have been victims of drugs…and are no longer in this world…

Bago ipatigil ni Marcos
Monday - Mekanda Robot
Tuesday - Daimos
Wednesday - Mazinger Z
Thursday - Grendaizer
Friday - Voltes V ( Steve, Big bert, Little John, Mark and J-mee)
Saturday - Star Ranger
I think MTV started on the 80’s also…
My favorite song - Rico Mambo ( I was in 4th year high school that time)
