Is Japan Worried About China's Rise?

What about you as a Filipino? Are you worried about China’s economic and military rise?

Here in the U.S. it seems like about 50% of Americans are concerned about it. Especially after Gen. Zhu Chenghu’s remarks about the possible use of nuclear weapons in the possible conflict over Taiwan. Even though China stated that it was just his personal opinion, and that China will abide by its “no first use” policy, many became worried. Even some ultra-conservative Americans are paranoid enough to be worried about the Chinese invading the U.S. mainland, which I think is laughable.

Personally, I think the “Dragon’s Ascent” is a peaceful rise, because in their 5000 year history, they’ve proven that they are not an aggressor.

Except maybe with regards to Tibet and possibly Taiwan. :open_mouth:

That is so true, especially here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We might want to check on any military arrangement. From what I remember before, in case of hostilities in the Taiwan straight, Taiwan will use a base in North Luzon to launch their F15s…

… which means, one of those warheads might be pointed at us (in addition to Okinawa, Yokosuka, and a dozen more places in japan na merong US bases)

Hindi lang ONE warhead, I’m sure…

But if you are a Pinoy living in Japan, you should be more worried about NORTH KOREA. I am less concerned about China, since the Chinese know that they will eventually win anyway by the sheer force of numbers (they will simply swallow up the world market), there is no need for them to rush or act brashly.

Not the case with the half-deranged Kim, who is unpredictable and can suddenly become trigger-happy. (Ever wonder why despite all his money and self-pampering, he can’t buy himself a better haircut? Para siyang may eternal bad hair day!! )

actually matagal na affected ang Philippines regarding economic portion with regards to competing with China because of their Low Labor Rate. Halos lahat ng well known Company involved in Electronics Industry ay pinili ang China in setting up their Manufacturing Plant (expansion).

No surprise that President George “Dubya” Bush considers North Korea as one of the “Axis of Evil.” (outside of his administration:p )

Kim has some few loose screws, that could cause his head to snap at anytime.

I mean, Kim Jong Il is almost as dangerous as Bush himself.

Those companies probably saw China as a safer place to invest, because there isn’t much political turmoil going on over there. As for low labor rate, isn’t it on par with the Philippines?

Actually ang major reason talaga ay lower labor cost, then pagdating sa market ay di na magiging problema because of China’s population lalo na sa mga commercial products like cellular phone, computers, etc.

Labor cost ng 1 ordinary manufacturing operator ng Pinas for example in Cavite area is equal to 4 to 6 operators of China (basis - 1 month salary)

I think in summary,China’s economy will badly affect the Philippine economy especially in terms of electronics. Kung mapapansin natin, kahit Japan ay apektado na rin kasi karamihanng mga electronics product dito ay puro made in china although it is manufactured here in japan.
