About Timog Hiking Club
Wagakuni-Atago Traverse Hike, Ibaraki Prefecture
From Kasama City’s website:
This is an introduction to the hiking trails in the Iwama area, which is full of nature and shows different faces with each season.
In the Iwama area, there is a traverse trail from Mt. Atago (306m above sea level) to Mt. Wagakuni (518m above sea level) via Mt. Nandai (553m above sea level). The trail has ups and downs and is suitable for those with good stamina. There is also a road along the way that leads down to the Kamigo area, so please enjoy the trail that suits you. In the lily of the valley colony, small flowers bloom in early May. The lily of the valley that we often see is an imported variety called German lily of the valley, which has flowers on the leaves, but the lily of the valley that blooms in this colony is a native Japanese lily of the valley.
Notes:
- Please note that the trail has many ups and downs and is slippery in places.
- There are no water supply facilities along the course, so please bring a water bottle or similar.
- Toilets are located halfway up Mt. Atago, at Atago Tengu Forest parking lot, and at Fukuhara Station.
- Please take your trash with you when you leave, and help protect this rich natural environment.
