Filipino Family Day 2004
The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo invites all members of the Filipino community in Japan to the celebration of Family Day 2004 on 21 November 2004, Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Studio-Coast in Shin-Kiba, Tokyo Bay Area.

Family Day 2004 will feature performances by artists and entertainers from the Philippines, a photo exhibit, competitions on logo design, theme, parol or lantern Christmas caroling, visual arts for Japanese-Filipino children as well.as raffles and door prizes. Generous awards and prizes await the winners.

Theme / Logo Design
For the theme/logo design, the deadline for the submission of entries is on 01 November 2004, Friday. Please submit your entries to the Political Section of the Philippine Embassy (Tel No 5562-1600 local 140.)

FAMILY DAY 2004
THEME/ LOGO COMPETITION

The Theme/ Logo Competition will be open to the entire Filipino Community in Japan and will serve as an instrument to encourage all Filipinos in Japan to actively take part in the preparations of Family Day 2004. This competition is also aimed at bringing out the creativity of the Filipinos in Japan. Contestants will be required to submit their proposed theme and logo based on the Family Day concept paper. Concept paper will be available at the Foreign Information Office, Philippine Embassy, Roppongi (telephone number 03-5562-1587).

Any additional inquiries regarding the competition may be addressed to the Political Section of the Philippine Embassy (telephone number 03-5562-1585).

DURATION: 7 September -1 October 2004

MECHANICS: LOGO/ THEME
The contest is open to all Filipinos (including Japanese-Filipino children) residing in Japan.
Contestants should submit two entries, i.e., one theme and one logo which captures the theme and vice versa

Entries for the logo competition must be submitted using A3 size paper (42 cm x 30 cm).

Proposed entries for the theme competition must use the Filipino language. English and Japanese may be mixed with Filipino, e.g., 1. Sugoi ang kabayanihan ng Pilipino! will be accepted. 2. Wow Philippines! will not be accepted because it contains no Filipino words/ phrases.

The theme (phrase, words, etc… must be incorporated into the proposed logo).

Entries must be submitted in an envelope. Envelope must contain name, address, contact number, email address of contestant.

Names/ identifying marks of the contestants should not be placed in the A3 submission.

Entries must be original artworks by the contestants. Contestants must sign a document stating that should any company/ entity claim that their works are not originals, they will take responsibility/ be liable for any damages that may result from using non-original works and that the copyright on winning entries transfers to the Family Day Executive Committee.

Contestants may use crayons, pentel pen, pastel, water color, computer-aided graphics, etc…

For entries to qualify, a contestant must submit a logo AND a theme. Submission containing only a logo or only a theme will be disqualified.

Contestants may submit more than one entry (logo and theme).

Non-winning entries will be returned by the Embassy upon the request of the contestants.

The winning entries shall be used by the Embassy for promotional materials for the Family Day 2004.

The Philippine Embassy will not be obligated to choose a winner should the entries not meet the criteria.

The criteria for judging will be:

25% consistency with ideas contained in the concept paper
25% visual appeal/ impact of the entry
20% variety of mediums used, i.e., number of mediums (pastel, water color, etc…)
20% representation value of the logo and theme; the logo must capture the theme.
10% creativity with the use of language, i.e., mix of Filipino and English or Filipino and Japanese

PRIZE

The winning entry designer will receive a cash award of Y30,000

Parol Contest
Those who wish to join ther parol contest should inform the Philippine Embassy (5562-1600 local 150 or 5562-1607) of their intention to participate on or before 5 November 2004, and bnring their parols to the Family Day celebration on 21 November 2004, not later than 10 am before the ecumenical celebration.
Caroling Contest
Participants to the Christmas Caroling Contest should have filed their application by 3 November 2004. For information, please call 5562-1600 local 270.

i’m looking forward to the parol contest! i’m thinking about making one myself, not for the contest, but to give to the elementary school nearby.

they don’t have parols in japan, so even a very simple one will impress the ordinary japanese, especially if you explain its story.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

This year’s Family Day will be in a way different from the previous Family Days that the Filipino Community in Japan was used to. For the first time, the Family Day 2004 Executive Committee placed more emphasis on the importance of the participation of each member of the family as evidenced by the various events planned for the day. The Poster Making Competition is one event intended for all Filipino and Filipino-Japanese children and youth currently residing in Japan. This competition is envisioned to encourage the children and the youth to be more proactive in this and future Filipino community sponsored activities.

Theme: “BUHAY-JAPAN”

Guidelines:

  1. Posters may be submitted by Filipino and Filipino-Japanese aged between 4-18 years old.
  2. The competition will have two categories: 1) children (ages 4-12 years old); and 2) youth (ages 13-18)
  3. Posters must be made on a 45.5 cm x 61 cm paper.
  4. Any material o\r medium (crayon, water color, art paper, cloth, mixed media) is acceptable.
  5. Entries must be submitted to the Cultural Section in person or by registered mail or takkyubin.
  6. Entries must include a cover page indicating the following information:
    a.) Category (children or youth)
    b.) title
    c.) name
    d.) age and sex
    e.) address
    f.) school name and grade or year level
    g. telephone and/or fax number
  7. Entries must be original and done by one individual only.

Deadline:
Entries must be received by the Cultural Section, Philippine Embassy no later than 12 November 2004.

Prizes:
The following prizes will be awarded out of 5 pre-selected entries (finalists) in both categories:
Grand Prize: Certificate of award and book coupons worth \30,000.
3 Special Prizes: Certificate of award and book coupons worth \15,00.
Ambassador’s Prize: Certificate of award and gift from the Ambassador.

N.B. All finalists will be requested to talk about their work of art before or during the awarding ceremony.

All participants of the competition will receive a certificate of participation.
