興奮しすぎて鼻血が出るかと思 ったよ。
para sa mga hindi nakakabasa, ang translation nito sa tagalog ay, “super excited ako, akala ko magkakaroon ako ng nosebleed.” o parang ganoon, hehe. (ang totoo, hindi ko alam kung bakit dugo sa ilong ang iniisip ng mga hapon kung super-excited sila.) puwede ba’ng, “i was so excited i thought i’d wet my pants”? o kung sa tagalog, “akala ko hihimatayin na ako sa excitement” etc.

I’d translate that to “I was drooling with excitement”.
I found an interesting explanation on why manga/anime characters nosebleed when they are (sexually) excited:
興奮する→心臓がドキドキする→血の巡りが 良くなる→もろい血管が裂ける
get excited→heart pounds→improves blood circulation→tears fragile nerves (sa loob ng ilong)

This is my take on this:
Excitement → activation of the hypothalamic-hypophysary-adrenal axis → adrenalin secretion from the adrenal glands → excitation of the cardio-vascular system → elevation of heart output and of the blood pressure.
But this is not enough because, if it is so we should all be getting nose bleeds each time we see Jennifer Lopez or something, so this is what may make some Japanese especially prone to nose bleeds:
Allergie, airconditioning and thus, mucosal lining irritation of the nose → rhinitis or just simply increased secretion of mucus (sipon…), nose blowing (often, very often), weakening of this protective mucosal lining due to outside stress (nose blowing…), exposure of the blood vessels within the mucosal lining (the vascular ‘stain’, a concentration of vessels near the mucosal lining).
This compounded with work-related stress, or any kind of stress (as I heard that Japanese life is quite stressful that’s why there are all these energy drinks like Lipovitan and the like dp you can work though you’re dead tired. The flesh is not willing and the mind is in gambatte mode), hypertension from eating way too much salt from ramen or combini deep fried bento box lunches, the weakening of the mucosal epithelial lining and exposure of the subepithelial vessels, and of course the sight of Yon Sama or any of those Grabya idols (excitement) and there you go - a nose bleed.

Totoo yun, Dax-san:) It is said some people get a nosebleed when they bathe themselves in “onsen”(or a hot tub) for too long. Kaya lang di pa ako nakaranasan nito:D

This is my take on this:

Nung High School pa lang duktor na ako, kaya nga parating matataas ang mga score ng mga barkada kapag ako ang nagtsetsek ng exam.
Talking about horniness, I met this one Jap psychiatrist who asked me if I knew this word in Filipino because one of his senior professors in hospital in Manila when he was there as an intern kept calling him that.
The word - Malibog.
I don’t know if he had any nose bleeds.
If he did I guess it would have happened around Ermita.

tenkyu sa lahat ng mga suggestions! sorry po, i forgot to mention that this is in reference to the original writer (kaibigan ko) talking about her experience of going to a live concert and seeing her idols up close. iba kasi ang mga translations para sa iba-ibang situations.
kaya trinanslate ko na lang na, “i was so excited i almost fainted” dahil may mga nahihimatay talaga pag nakita ang kanilang idols sa concert (o nung beatles era lang nangyari ito?).
tungkol naman sa nosebleed, ang japanese lang ang alam kong nade-depict ng excitement through nosebleeding, especially sa mga manga. hindi kaya dahil sa madali lang i-drowing ito? paano mo nga naman maido-drowing ang excitement sa manga. baka mas convenient na mag-drowing ng dugo sa ilong at tawagin itong “super excitement”. okey din yan nakita mo explanation, dax.

Checked the link. I think I just wet my pants, to use Maruchan’s translation. Teka parang PG-13 na naman ito ah… :eeek:

Following is what I learned from a few educated Japanese.
興奮して鼻血が出る is just an expression, and most people know it.
Since it is so colloquial, it is not in textbooks.
It is usually related to a male(often young) seeing something sexually stimulating for him. (Halimbawa, panties, next-door beautiful girl changing cloths.)
A lot of scenes in Manga depict such cases.
However, no Japanese guy will actually nose-bleed by such sights.
Another variation of this expression is 鼻血ブー(hanaji bu-) , the bu- sound is the imaginary sound of blood erupting from the nose. This expression became famous by cartoons by Yasuji Tanioka.
Last but not least, Blood is Chi, but you don’t say Hanachi, it must be Hanaji.

Sorry sa late reply puting tainga. Thanks for that explanation. Palagay ko wala naman talagang dumudugo ang ilong sa pagtingin ng sexually stimulating scenes.
Ngayon ang gusto kong malaman ay kung ano ang nauna, ang expression o ang depiction sa manga?

Yung expression na sinasabi ko ang yung kagaya ng sabi ni puting tainga, 興奮して鼻血が出る (dumudugo ang ilong pag nai-excite) at nasa original post din. Hindi ko alam kung unang ginamit ito sa mga manga para i-illustrate ang “(sexual) excitement” o naunang ginamit muna ng mga tao bilang common expression.
(Naghahanap ako ng manga picture para ipakita dito pero pag ginoogle mo ang 鼻血 (http://images.google.com/images?q=鼻%E 8%A1%80&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&start=280&sa=N) karamihan mga babaing naka-bikini ang lumalabas.)
