The National Police Agency has decided to implement a system of enforcement against bicycle traffic violations, called “blue tickets,” which notify drivers of the payment of fines, in the same way as for cars and motorcycles, from April 1 next year. The amount of the fine will vary depending on the violation, such as 12,000 yen for “distracted driving,” which involves driving while using a mobile phone, and the National Police Agency plans to revise the government ordinance after conducting a public comment period.
The National Police Agency has decided to implement this system from April 1 next year, and has put together a proposal for the amount of fines for 113 traffic violations that will be subject to the “blue tickets.”
The National Police Agency will amend the Cabinet Order after accepting public comments from the 25th, and after the order comes into effect in April next year, it plans to focus on enforcing regulations on violations that could lead to serious accidents.
