Pusong Tofu

Hi Folks! Baka isipin ninyo, “Koi no nayami soudan” ito ha…:stuck_out_tongue:

A friend who lives in the US, recently told me to go slow on Tofu (she doesn’t know I don`t have penchant for tofu).

Tofu has been linked to the development of uterine and ovarian cancers because its structures highly resembles estrogen, daw ha.

What boggles me now is that, years ago, I`ve have seen a “Minomonta daily t.v. show” branding daizu/soybeans (main ingredient of tofu) as " Hatake no Oosama" . Meaning (maybe) a complete source of all the nutrients one needs. Biglang lalong naging mabenta ang tofu:)

I just notice that most of the time when a TV show says that a certain food item prepared in a certain manner is good for this and that…I should expect it to be gone from the shelves of the supermarkets instantaneously.

Anyway, I really don’t want to stay away from tofu completely, but could there be any “cultural perspective vs. chemical aspect” here? And I’m beginning to wonder about Natto and Miso (paste) too.

Any health nut in here?

hello mapple!

I think I found the answer…at least a portion of it. Check this site:
http://www.mercola.com/2004/aug/4/fermented_soy.htm

Ang good pala ay ang mga fermented soy like natto and miso. Sayang walang fermented tofu. Waaa! :weep:

Read about Nattokinase, too:

As for 痛風(つうふう)gout, according to my doctor, only 20 % of urine acid can be controlled by abstaining from foods that are likely to add urine acid.
Every healthy person produces urine acid inside his or her body and regulates the density of it without really thinking about it.
People who have gout are (most probably) hereditarily incapable of regulating it.
Obesity is another factor.
If you are fat, you are likely to have gout.
If your urine acid count is high, (more than 7.5), you must start taking prescribed medicines, such as urinorm.(apparently the name comes from urine+normal)

What I am trying to say here is that think about the pros and cons, and abstaining from tofu just because it may slightly reduce your urine acid count is not a good idea.

Because if you persist to food restriction for gout, you must also stop beer and every kind of alcoholic beverages, and every kind of meat, spinach and other green vegetables, eggs and also fish eggs (such as tarako, mentaiko, ikura, etc)

In short, anything yummy is bad for gout, and yet even if you don’t eat them at all, the result is only marginal, and in the end you have to take pills.:frowning:

Conclusion: Let’s eat tofu and drink beer.

Here is what I got from a quick glance of journals:

Tofu can help in preventing prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer. It also has a positive effect of the cardiovsacular system as it is associated to a decrease in bad cholesterol.
There is some evidence in animal models that soy can be associated to uterine cancer but in the end, results are inconclusive and even suggest that it has a protective effect on cancer.
A recent meta-analysis of data states that more research should still be done as most conclusions are conflicting. So, here’s my judgement. Eat soy and be merry. And to be definitely in the best of health, drink a lot of beer lalo na kung super init like today. Some caution though, it is well known to be a cause of liver cancer and colorectal cancer…

Meron!
Thanks, Dax, but I don’t think I can eat those…at least not yet. Baka I have to stay in Japan longer pa para ma take ang fermented tofu na 'yan. As of now, I can’t even eat blue cheese, but I like blue cheese dressing, though.

Maple my dear, from Bayer’s perspective, Plenty of consumables are bad for your health. With that said, Let’s drink beer and eat tofu and… maybe throw in some of that bambo stuff from your back yard.

I’m a health freak! So I placed my self on a “See Food Diet”. I see it, I eat it. Simple. Live long and prosper!

Hi Maple,

Tofu is number one sa diet ng nga taong Vegetarian, its high in protiens and wala namang side effect ang pagkain ng tofu and makes your bones strong. I love tofu too…same ng salmon at least kailangan mong kumain 3x a week ng salmon kasi kailangan natin ang omega-3 w/c is ang pinaka taba ng salmon…
