Hi,

Going home? That sounds fun. ii na.

The Libis area and Eastwoods area - there are nice places to go have dinner with family and friends. There are lots of restaurants- Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Filipino, Seafood speciality restaurants, and also the “Dencio’s type- Filipino izakaya” - it depends on what you want to have.

Last time we went to the Spanish restaurant - I have to check out the name - it was good- we had paella and callos, and other Spanish dishes… yeah, calamares! Since I don’t drink, feasted on the fruit juices - you have a choice - mango, dalandan, calamansi, buko…

The next time, we went to Dencio’s and feasted on Filipino food - sisig, Bulalo, Sinigang, Crispy Pata, Kare kare, etc… again with Buko juice, or sago gulaman drinks… and of course beer for those who want to drink… I had my usual - dalandan juice though…

I like Eastwoods - it is just about five minutes away without traffic from our place. We enrolled in the gym there last time.

Another nice place also is the refurbished Greenhills area.
They have a lot of new restaurants around that area too.
In Greenhills- one of my faves, is the Gloria Maris dimsum house…near Unimart. They have good Yam-cha. (Dimsum-aah tabetai ne!)

Even the Cubao area, since it was re-made ala Makati…there are lots of shops and restaurants…now.

But of course, Makati is still the best for gimmicks. Around the Greenbelt 3 and 4 area- that is nice.

For specifics- that will come in my next post… still have to check with my bros and sis if those places are still there…

Teddy san,

I wrote my friends for advise on what restaurants are good-

One of my best friends, a gourmet herself, sent me a lot of information-

Here is part of her letter to me - read on -

Greenhills had a major facelift so it pretty much is full of food shops.
But what people go there for is the tiangge because of cheap fresh water pearls and semi precious jewelry.

Of course Gloria Maris and Kimpura–old, reliable classics.

Along Wilson St. is the Churassco (Brazilian Roast & buffet) and North Park
for authentic Chinese food.

In Eastwood, the fountain area is a nightlife spot like Jack’s Loft, Ipanema
for drinks and bands and Larry’s Bar. Blue Onion I understand is more like a
disco.

In terms of food, there is Minggoy’s Twist–like a Spanish fusion
cuisine. The crowd is mix–families early evening to 10:00. 11:00 and up are
college students and yuppies.

The Podium is the hi-end mall of Henry Sy. So it’s shopping with eating:
So you have Crustasia (Asian food-chinese,Vietnamese,I ndonesian etc), Banana Leaf Curry (asian too- more Malaysian,Singaporea n,Indian-- sarap!),
Shabu-shabu (steam boat), Lolo Mao (Singaporean Cuisine), Mediterranean
Café, Teri’s Selection and Casa Armas (both Spanish cuisine with the first
having an extensive wine selection-- ADB people frequent this place), Burgoo
is all-american, similar to TGIF.

Can I advertise? I operate a little coffee
shop in the podium at the 5th level.
It’s called Theos inside the Landes Store. We serve coffee shop specialties like pasta, international breakfast all day, cream pies and rich chocolate desserts.

At Power Plant, Rockwell-- it’s also a mall but it has a “night strip” which
are known like Cork, Matti, Via Mare, etc.-- that entire row. In the
basement floor-- there’s a nice, small resto called Kulinarya.

The Fort: (I’ll research on this one). The only thing I know is Embassy Bar
and Le Souffle.

In Makati-- of course there are plenty-- But the more popular ones are at
Glorietta 3 & 4: You have Italiani’s (Homestyle Italian Food-big servings),
BIZU-- French coffee shop fare and more, Nuvo (noveau cuisine), Masa
(Filipino food served with international flair I guess), UVA-Filipino
Fusion, Cascada.

For day trips: There are good eats at Tagaytay: You have the classic
Josephine’s for Filipino food, Breakfast at Antonios (breakfast all day
concept), Antonio’s (pricey continental cuisine and better by reservation to
ensure seats), Buon Giorno’s (café & bistro)–about to open, Fire Lake Grill
(specializes in steaks) by Chef Paul. Both at Cliffhouse Tagaytay Complex
along Aguinaldo Highway.

When I can think of more-- will email you, soon!

That is only from one friend - please wait for more to come.
Hope this helps anyone interested in food-hoping in the Philippines…:stuck_out_tongue:

This is probably the best Filipino restaurant I know and have heard of. The place is great and it is cheap for what they serve. Too bad the one in Makati closed:( . I have an English uncle who adores the Sinigang na bangus there.

Greenhills-Gloria Maris… yes, my friend agrees with me- good dimsum!

“In Eastwood-
In terms of food, there is Minggoy’s Twist”

–that’s the one- part of the Minggoy’s chain…

“The Podium is the hi-end mall of Henry Sy.
Casa Armas”
The original one is in Manila- they have super delicious paella and crabs. Our family had lunch there…oishi katta.

"Can I advertise? I operate a little coffee
shop in the podium at the 5th level.
It’s called Theos inside the Landes Store. We serve coffee shop specialties like pasta, international breakfast all day, cream pies and rich chocolate desserts. "

That is my friend’s shop- I have to go there too.

"In Makati-- of course there are plenty-- But the more popular ones are at
Glorietta 3 & 4: "

Have been to the Italian restaurant- it was “ma-ma” in Nihongo.
I liked - Via Mare much better…

“For day trips: There are good eats at Tagaytay: You have the classic
Josephine’s for Filipino food-”

That is good food- we were there last time too -

If you want delicious barbeque- go to the small turo-turo in Project 4 -
Danny Licious - my favorite. You can buy - " take out…" -

Also, of course- Aristocrat or Alexander along Wilson street - for the chicken barbeque.

But, Pork BBQ- I still like Danny Licious…

My friends, and family in the Philippines- they will email me their recommendations…

Will gladly post them here for our members and readers…

Bon Appetit !
(Betong, is that correct? )

One more - there is this very nice restaurant- in Quezon City…
Blue Bacon and Green Eggs - it is actually a deli. But now they have grown into a very charming restaurant -very European - good food and sausages…

Betong, you might like it there… Teddy, they have a live band, that is new.

That is one of my fave places…you can read more about it at -

Just found out about this neat site.

Teddy,

…at marami pang iba!

Naku! Di sapat talaga ang one week:(

Sobrang na-eexcited kami sa trip sa Pinas sa next Jan.   Araw-araw binubuksan ko yung map kong Manila at yung surrounding area, tapos tinitingnan ng matagal…

Salamat ulit sa advice nyo.

Yes, CityR that it very much correct, wala lang yung accent (accent aigu).:open_mouth:

I went to this place near or in Project 4, I can’t really remember but I think that it was Danny licious because my friend ordered sausages and I remember that they were really good. This Blue Bacon and Green Eggs place sounds good too. Maybe I’ll meet the famed Dr. Seuss there…

Teddy San, being a food lover myself, I cannot but recommend Josephine’s for Filipino food, the one in Tagaytay was really nice, but since you are also interested in going to Cavite, the original restaurant is actually there and it seems to be a very nice place. Anyway, you should try the Kilawing Tanggige (raw marlin in vinegar, onions, ginger and other spices) which has to be my favorite dish there.

Oui, I agree. Merci Betong san.
Blue Bacon and Green Eggs - actually the colors represent their university colors… (I think the owners come from two different universities…got the hint?

And yes, Josephine’s in Cavite- that is - C’est bon!

For all the members- here are more places- this time the following are recommended by my cousin in Manila - her letter goes:

"People’s Palace, a trendy Thai restaurant in Greenbelt 3 is fun. Food is not cheap but if you want to hang out and eat well, this is a nice place.

Gordo’s for pizza and steaks. About P1,000 per person with wine and dessert. It has a nice cozy ambiance. This is found at the Fort. (Bonifacio Global City)

Antonio’s in Tagaytay is a bit pricy but their steaks are fantastic. Very nice romantic restaurant. Reservations required in advance.

When in Megamall, try the new Lemon Grass restaurant at the entrance of building A. Lots of expats from ADB eat lunch there. I love their flank noodle soup, pomelo salad. About P200 per person and that includes a yummy lemon grass tea! "

So that’s it - another letter I got from Manila.
Hope you write down the places -

I want to go home to Manila - and eat all I can… (and gain weight! Oh no! )
