what exactly is the work of filipina entertainers in japan? most of them have no skills in singing or dancing. Is the stereotype image of the japayuki true?

yung agency sa pinas hinahanap nila magaganda at matatangkad kahit walang talent meron naman na kahit hindi kagandahan basta may talent at maboka ok pa rin.dito naman sa japan iba-iba ang system ng mga club may iba na main talaga nila ang showtime kasi gusto ng mga japorms yon.may ibang club na front lang talaga ang showtime at iba talaga ang negosyo kaya kapag nakita ng spy na lumabag sa kontrata pasara agad.

during the past few months it has been a concern of Philippine government regarding the new immigration policy for entertainer visa. Babawasan daw ang pasok ng mga enterteiners dahil ang iba sa kanila ay hindi naman daw legitimate na entertainers, kaya ang iba sa kanila ay nauuwi into prostitution. Its one of the reason daw para maiwasan ang human trafficking. Few months ago, a news in Philippine Star na hindi naman daw totoong entertainers ang pinapadala ng Pinas kundi mga hostess, siguro hindi naman lahat. more info of pinayin japan please read this:

They’re everywhere - you don’t have to look very far. Pero ang madami ang concentration - try Kinshicho or Kamata. Marami din sa Roppongi. I’ve also seen a couple of Pinay bars in Shimbashi.

dito sa lugar namin sa HIROSHIMA sa totoo lang madami.ang totoong contract sasayaw lang at kakanta pero nilalabag ng mga club everywhere.yung babae nakatable nakikipag-usap sa mga costumer kaya hayan maraming napapasara na club kahit naman noon ganun na.marami na ring napasarang club dito.

i was also curious about this … so 4 years ago, me, my boyfriend (now my husband) and another filipino went to a bar having filipino entertainers. Maraming Filipina doon. Cguro more than 30 cla. Talagang nag-observe ako!
Anyhow, ano ang ginagawa nila? They dance, sing and entertain customers. Yung mga nag-eentertain sa table, nde cla nag-stay in one table. May rotation cla, they seat sa lahat ng table to talk to customers.
After the show was over, we went home. And felt really stupid cause we spent too much money! We dont drink nman! Lahat pala ng drink nung mga girls na naupo sa table namin binayaran namin! Ganun pala yon! :eek:

you are right makulit. Perhaps some of the members in TF are not aware of the real work of pinay entertainers in Japan. Di lang naman singing, dancing and performing ang work nila, they also seat on the table and entertain customers which on reality ay talagang bawal. Comparable ang work nila sa malalaki and high class na club sa Pinas. They got commissions on the food and drink they consumed. Sometimes the entertainers are forced to lure the male custumers for them to come back in the club, sa dami na ng club at competition, kanya kanyang gimik na sila. Minsan nga napasok ako sa isang club sa Kinscho, yung mga pinay naka costume pa ng pantulog. No wonder why Japan’s MOJ quoted that hindi naman daw entertainers ang pinapadala ng Pinas kundi mga hostess.
Pinay entertainer’s salary ranges from US$450 to US$1000 a month not including commissions on the food and drink and tips from the customers. On the other side, sa ibang club naman yung tinatawag nilang snack bar pero may mga hostess (sometimes yung mga pinay na may permanent resident status) ang salary nila ranges from JPY10,000 to JPY15,000 (approx.Php4,800 to Php7,200) a day not including commissions and tips. Minsan meron mga galanteng customers na nagbibigay ng tip na JPY10,000 to JPY20,000 yung kuripot naman mga JPY1,000 hanggang JPY5,000. Ang labas ng mga pinay na nagtratrabaho sa club ay para silang mga marketing officer, kailangan silang maka attract ng mga customer para bumalik sa club nila, kaya ang nangyayari ay kailnangan silang makipag date para ma-attract sa kanila yung mga customers.

nila dito…they know kung me talent ba sila or wala…they not if magiging GRO ba cla or entertainers talaga…i mean,their not that dumb…they just want to earn,by hook or by crook and lets just give it to them…sa mga totoong mga entertainers talaga eh,congrats sa inyo…sa mga

tama ka dyan shadowman meron pa rin matino pero bilang lang sa daliri.yung iba talagang palaban na hostess na talaga sila makakuha lang ng pera meron dito na ganyan ang ginagawa kasi yung club dating mga pkpk ang mga babae dun tas nagiba ng system napasara ng ilang buwan.nun nagbukas ulit binago ang system pansamantala pero ibang talento ang nakapasok sa club na yon walang costumer na dumadating dahil ayaw ng talento magpahawak pero nun dumating na yung dating nagtatrabaho dun na ang gawain e! ok lang kahit hawakan sila lahat ng matino nahihipo na rin tuloy ng costumer.kawawa naman tuloy yung ibang nadadamay na di naman gusto yung ganun trabaho pero iba naman ang diskarteng ginagawa sobrang lupet.ok lang sana magtrabaho sa japan kahit tawagin pang hostess o japayuki basta alam mo sa sarili mo na lumalaban ka ng patas sa buhay wala kang nilolokong tao, maraming ganyan.alam kong hindi lahat pero karamihan.

I am just curious. How many ‘entertainers’ are there here in Japan? How long do they stay here and do they have to do ‘more’ than entertain? I have heard from my Japanese friends that Filipino’s are generally seen in quite a negative light. Is there any way that this is true. Being a Filipino I was completely shocked by this. One even said that in colloquial Japanese the word Filipina could mean prostitute. I do not mean to offend anybody but it is true that even to Filipino’s in Manila, those who go to Japan, the ‘Japayuki’s’ are seen as… well, indecent. The person who said this even went to say that even in other countries, Filipino’s are seen in this way. I know that this is not the case for the Filipino’s I know, but I maybe am just not in a situation suitable to meet these people. Where I used to live, the only connotation attached to Filipino’s are very good hard-working people, not at all indecent in any way.

according to newspaper reports, Japanese embassy in manila issued around 80,000 entertainer visa a year, but due to the recent immigration policy that took effect last March or April this year they will gradually reduce the issuance of entertainer visa by around 90%, making sure na talagang genuine at professional entertainer ang papasok na pinay sa japan. Ito daw kasi ang nagiging sanhi ng Human trafficking, sometimes ang mga kawawang entertainer ay nauuwi sa prostitution. Entertainer visa last for 6 months.

hello guys…anyway… .what does the word JAPAYUKI means …alam ko hindi masyadong magandang gamitin yan sa mga kababayan natin eh…or term lang ba yan sa mga pilipinang nasa Japan?so it means pag nasa Japan ka na Japayuki ka na?ngeeek, 2 weeks na ko here hehe hope not… or term para sa mga working in club as hostess?confusing… …juz wanna know the exact meaning…matagal na kasi yang issue eh…please sa mga pinay na working here in Japan and members here…dont get me wrong ha…just cant make head nor tails about that term eh

Di ko alam origin nito pero baka short sha for Japanese yuki… eheheheh. Sa Pilipinas, ang pagkaalam ko, this is a “street” term or slang for someone who is going to Japan to work, nung una specifically entertainers. Pero, alam mo naman mga pinoy naging joke yun, pag pupunta kang Japan, pag kekwento mo sa mga kaibigan mo “oy,pupunta ako Japan!” … automatic “baket ka punta Japan? Japayuki ka?” and most often than not, the answer would be “Oo Japayuki ako” --meaning to work, but not neccesarily as an entertainer. So, I see the dillema, we often joke about it kasi tulad ko, wala sa itsura ko ang maging isang entertainer, with my build and my geeky looks, pag sinabi ko punta ko japan… ah malamang programer to. So I can joke about being a Japayuki. But if you are pretty and have a good physique… take care with whom you joke about the word. So if a wierd looking stranger comes up to you and asks from out of the blue, Japayuki ka ba? … well its better not to talk to wierd strangers but just for example… that guy probably means “entertainer” so if you are, then say yes… if not its ok to act pissed, and explain what you really do.

Japayuki - Bound for Japan. Originally derived from the word karayuki or the prostitutes sent to China during the old war. It has become quite derogatory along the years to refer to those coming to Japan to work in the bars.

I hate it when people refer to me as a japayuki in philippines. Here I would not be mistaken for one cause its not in my profile. Doon sa atin, ang pagkakaalam kasi nila anybody living or working in japan is a japayuki.
It started when a journalist called Filipino entertainers as Japayuki, which is rhyming with the word ‘Karayuki’. Karayuki is a term for japanese women sold to brothels abroad before world war II. Even if there are other nationalities working as entertainers, only Filipinos are tagged as Japayukis.
Japayuki’s are entertainers period. People looked down at you. A person called a Japayuki is someone of low morale. Japanese belittles you. I know there are a lot of Japanese who married Japayuki’s. But majority of them are not treated well and end up divorced.
And some Japayuki’s continues to work in pubs even after gettine married. I dont know why. Just a few months ago, may classmates ako na japayuki sa japanese class. I dont know why they have to wear that kind of clothes. You can be sexy and still look respectable. They look cheap. And to make it worst, wala silang manners sa loob ng classrooms. Maingay, nagkukwentuhan. Nakakaistorbo talaga! Many times teacher had to stop and wait for them to finish. Sobrang pahiya ako. Syempre filipino din ako!

Thanks for that info - I think its very interesting. Basically the word means bound for Japan, but it was coined to refer to prostitutes going to Japan. But now I think it is de-evolving to its basic meaning, at least in the company I work for, if someone is dispatched to Japan, they are called Japayuki, with no derogative intent. I have been to bars in Manila, and I remember the girls working there would also call their colleagues Japayuki if they were going to Japan, usually with a hint of envy. Part of my point is that I dont feel any superiority over Filipinos who come here to be entertainers. Parepareho lang kami na pumunta dito kasi hirap sa pilipinas. So wala akong problema na matawag na Japayuki. We are all providing service in exchange for Yen.

I think theres a big difference depende kung sinong magsasabi nyan. Filipinos in the Philippines tend to be not so critical because they are basically clueless unto the true meaning of the word. BUt if I was a pinay and some gaki in Japan calls me such - I guess he’ll be in for some serious spanking from yours truly. Just me. Maybe just me.

oo nga. almost two years na tong thread na ito na tulog.
~~~magtatanong pa sana ako kung ano ba talaga ang ginagawa ng mga entertainers dito sa Japan kase nga maraming pumupunta dito na wala namang ka~talent~talent pero may thread na pala dito at avah~~!! last year pa pala ito natutulog heheh:p . atleast ngayun medyo may idea na ako kung ano ang ginagawa ng mga talent (kuno!) dito hahah joke! thanks for this thread atleast nalaman ko rin dito na hay~~ikaw pa pala magbabayad sa mga iniinom nila ay naku i~shopping ko nalang ang pambabayad ko. pero di naman kami nagpupunta sa mga bars na yan e..curious lang rin ako sa word na "japayuki" pero ngayun medyo alam ko na..:D
