The Kapatiran (Association of Filipino Students in Tohoku)

The Kapatiran (Association of Filipino Students in Tohoku) (Japanese: カパティラン東北フィリピン学生協会, Kapatiran Tōhoku Firipin Gakusei Kyōkai) is an organization based in Tohoku University[1] in the city of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, composed of Filipino international students in the Tohoku Region in northern Japan.[2]

History

The Kapatiran was founded in 1990 to foster friendship and nurture life and academic skills within the Filipino international student community in the Tohoku area.[2:1]

The Kapatiran members are mostly students from Tohoku University in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, but also includes students from other universities in the region, such as Fukushima University in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture.[3]

The Kapatiran offers daily life support for its members, assists the Philippine Embassy in its consular outreach activities in the Tohoku area[4] and organizes cross-cultural exchange events and volunteer activities.[2:2]
