Photo requirements for visa renewal in Japan

It is unacceptable under any circumstances to change the image of the person by editing or processing the image to make the eyes look larger, whitening the skin, or modifying facial features, moles, wrinkles, etc. Also, photos that are reversed horizontally are not acceptable.

Photo submission requirements

The following photographs must be submitted with each application:

If an application is submitted using an inappropriate photograph that does not meet the specified standards, you will be asked to take a new photograph.

Photo dimensions

ID photo size

  1. Photo size: 4cm long, 3cm wide
  2. A photograph of the applicant only
  3. The dimensions of the part excluding the edges must meet the dimensions shown in the diagram on the left. (Facial measurements are from the top of the head (including hair) to the tip of the chin)
  4. No hat and facing forward
  5. No background (including shadows)
  6. The photo should be clear
  7. Must have been taken within 6 months prior to the date of submission
  8. A document with your name written on the back (excluding cases where you print the photo directly into the photo attachment section of the application form and submit it (note))
